On behalf of everyone at EKS&H, we are pleased to introduce the third EKS&H Leading EDGE digital magazine. This issue contains valuable information about international business, business intelligence, some of our professionals’ new certifications, and several other topics.

We hope you are having a great summer that provides an opportunity to rest and rejuvenate and maybe enjoy some warmer-weather activities – I know I am enjoying hitting the road on my bike.

At EKS&H, in addition to recharging from another late-spring busy season, we are in the midst of our strategic planning process. Each year, a major part of this process is our annual partner retreat.

One of the priority topics at this year’s retreat was our firm culture. Having grown to more than 500 people, and with the recent expansion into business analytics and business intelligence services through the acquisition of Infolink Consulting, it is important for us to frequently gauge the health of our unique EKS&H firm culture. As a values-driven workplace, our organizational culture is based on these ten core values that we believe are fundamental to our recognition of a workplace of choice.

  • Integrity and ethical values
  • Direct, open, and honest communication
  • Commitment to clients
  • Product quality and reliability
  • Continual self-improvement/self-renewal
  • Having fun
  • People as the source of our strength
  • Team-orientation/commitment to each other
  • Creativity/innovation/risk-taking
  • Strong work ethic

Another important element to our culture is the philosophy of servant leadership. At our partners retreat, we challenged ourselves, and were encouraged to challenge all of our employees, to recognize that the role of a leader is actually to serve. A good way to understand servant leadership, according to James C. Hunter’s book, The Servant, is that a servant leader is someone who identifies and meets the needs of people. It is hard work to lead as a servant, but it is also rewarding.

Our goal is to serve you, our clients – your success is the best measure of ours – and we hope that you find that to be true. If not, please reach out to any one of us at EKS&H to discuss how we might better serve you. After all, that is the best way for us to be your true trusted business adviser.

Very truly yours,

Bob Hottman
