Mike Fitzgerald, CPA, Tax Partner
Mike has more than 10 years of public accounting experience and primarily serves closely and privately held companies operating in a wide variety of industries, including manufacturing, distribution, private equity, technology, and professional services. His expertise includes federal and state income tax planning, consulting, and compliance related to mergers and acquisitions and multistate consolidated entities. Michael earned a Master of Taxation from the University of Notre Dame and is a member of the Colorado Advanced Manufacturing Alliance (CAMA).
Rebecca Kelley, CPA, Consulting Partner
Rebecca has more than 10 years of consulting experience and helps lead the accounting solutions group at EKS&H. She offers clients expertise in accounting processes, including compilations; payroll accounting; accounts payable and receivable; and month-end processes, procedures, and review. She utilizes a variety of accounting software, including Sage 100, Microsoft Dynamics, and QuickBooks. As a QuickBooks Certified ProAdvisor, Rebecca has extensive experience optimizing QuickBooks to meet clients’ unique needs. She earned a Bachelor of Science in accountancy from the University of Denver and is a member of the Aurora Chamber of Commerce.
Mike Lopez, Consulting Partner
Mike has more than 15 years of experience as an IT professional providing insight and strategy on a number of topics, including systems and server planning, budgeting, installation, management, configuration, troubleshooting, maintenance, security, integration of LAN and WAN networks, and strategic IT planning. Mike offers expertise to the oil and gas and manufacturing industries, privately owned businesses, and nonprofit clients. He leads the managed IT and IT projects practice teams in the EKS&H business technology services group, which specializes in outsourced technology support, managed IT services, cloud computing, and technology implementations and migrations. He earned a Bachelor of Science in computer information systems and management from the Metropolitan State University of Denver and is certified in Microsoft and Cisco products.
Clay Sparks, CPA, Tax Partner
Clay has more than 10 years of experience in public accounting and consulting and primarily serves privately held companies in the real estate, professional services, clean technology, healthcare, and manufacturing industries. Clay’s expertise includes transaction structuring, tangible property regulations, investment tax credits, and installment sales reporting. He earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from the University of Arizona. Clayton is a board member of Playworks Colorado and a member of the Denver Metro Chamber of Commerce Infrastructure Committee.
Kari Ritz Thiessen, CPA, Consulting Partner
Kari has more than 20 years of transfer pricing and valuation experience, including 18 years at a Big Four firm prior to joining EKS&H in 2013. She leads the transfer pricing practice area at EKS&H, and her expertise includes documentation of all transaction types, intangible property planning, audit defense, benchmarking assistance, and risk assessment and minimization, particularly as it relates to base erosion and profit shifting. Kari has extensive experience in a variety of industries, including technology, manufacturing, professional services, retail, and medical devices. She earned a Bachelor of Science in accounting from Boston College, and she is an executive board member and treasurer of the World Trade Center Denver, a leader in the EKS&H international advisory group, and a member of the International Business Circle.
In addition to the partners and those individuals recognized in our Fall Leading Edge newsletter, Allison Kort (consulting) has also been promoted to senior manager. Allison is a leader in the accounting solutions group and assists clients with QuickBooks, outsourced accounting needs, and financial statement and monthly close preparation.
Maya Smith, CPA, Tax Senior Manager
Maya joins EKS&H with more than 10 years of Big Four experience assisting clients with a range of state and local/multi-state tax services. She has focused on state and local income and franchise tax compliance, tax provisions, state tax notices and audits, and state tax planning. Maya earned a BA and an MPA from the University of Texas.
Edward Kim, JD, CECP, Senior Consulting Manager
Edward joins EKS&H with almost 15 years of experience in executive compensation consultation, including roles at Bank of America, Inc. and one of the top law firms in the nation (as ranked by Vault). He’s counseled public and privately held businesses on executive compensation programs spanning a wide range of industries. He earned his BA from Brown University and Juris Doctorate from the University of California, Hastings College of Law and is recognized as a Certified Executive Compensation Professional (CECP) from the WorldatWork Society of Certified Professionals.
Andrew Schultz, CPA, Consulting Senior Manager
Andrew joins EKS&H with more than 10 years of experience in industries including Big Four public accounting assurance and advisory services, manufacturing and distribution, industrial products and services, consumer products, healthcare, retail, financial services, and professional services. He earned his BSBA from Wayne State College and a Master in Accountancy from the University of Denver.
Jennifer Zanone, CISA, PMP, Audit Senior Manager
Jennifer joins the EKS&H Risk Advisory Services team with more than 10 years of experience in business and technology risk consulting. She has expertise in the real estate, higher education, nonprofit, financial services, and healthcare industries. She earned her BSBA from Georgia Institute of Technology. Jennifer is a Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) and holds the Project Management Professional (PMP) designation.
Kelly Kozeliski, Audit Partner, has been named chair of the University of Northern Colorado (UNC) Accounting Program Advisory Council. The Accounting Program at UNC is accredited by AACSB International, which is a gold standard for accreditation in business and accounting education.
Melissa Brownstein, Audit Partner, has joined the Board of Quarterly Forum. The Quarterly Forum is a Colorado-based leadership organization that connects, educates, and inspires the state’s best emerging community leaders.
Becky Potts, Audit Partner, joined the Executive Committee and Finance Committee as part of the Board of the Colorado Women’s Chamber of Commerce (CWCC). The CWCC is a member-based nonprofit that provides opportunities and visibility for women in business through relationship development, education, mentorship, partnership, and alliances.
Josh Billiard, Senior Manager, was named an honoree of the BizWest Northern Colorado 40 Under Forty program, which recognizes top young professionals from across Larimer and Weld counties. The 40 Under Forty event honors the best and brightest emerging leaders who make a difference in their companies, industries, and their communities’ futures.
Craig Choun, Tax Partner, has been named to the board of advisors for The Bridge Project. The Bridge Project provides a path for youth in Denver’s public housing neighborhoods to graduate from high school and go on to attend college or choose a vocation by engaging them in educational opportunities and facilitating the development of life skills and self-sufficiency.
Brad McQueen, Audit Partner, has been named the board chair for Volunteers for Outdoor Colorado (VOC). VOC has been motivating and enabling people to become active stewards of Colorado’s natural resources since 1984. VOC works with conservation and land agencies and relies on thousands of people annually to provide a volunteer workforce for outdoor stewardship project.
